Fly down a narrow city alley, dodge obstacles, shoot floating targets, and upgrade aircraft to set your best distance. game playable in-browser or mobile.
Overview
WINGS OVER THE CITY is an HTML5 arcade flight game you can play in your browser. Take off from the runway and fly as far as you can down a narrow alley between buildings. After crashing, a confetti flag marks the crash site and your distance and collected coins are converted into cash for the hangar.
Flight and Physics
- The engine runs until fuel runs out; after that you glide.
- The plane maintains a slight automatic climb; a steep nose-up reduces speed and can cause a stall.
- Above 72 meters the air thins and the engine loses power; the maximum ceiling is 88 meters.
- Crosswinds prevent flying beyond the buildings.
Obstacles and Combat
- Alley obstacles include footbridges, gantries with suspended signs, floating targets, and the buildings themselves.
- Floating targets can be shot down with on-board weapons; ammunition is purchased in the hangar.
Damage and Handling
- A collision with the fuselage ends the flight.
- A wingtip snag severs the wing but allows continued flight on a damaged plane: lift capacity drops by 42%, sink rate nearly doubles, and the aircraft veers, requiring correction.
- Losing both wings ends the flight.
Progression and Upgrades
- Four upgrade categories with twelve levels each: engine, wings, tank, and control.
- Reaching thresholds unlocks new aircraft: Light Aircraft, Fighter, Jet, Supersonic, and Rocket Plane, each with distinct performance and engine sound.
- New aircraft are presented on a separate screen with a rotating model and confetti.
Results and Leaderboards
- A table of the top ten flights is kept.
- A leaderboard lets you compete against fifteen pilots; your record is placed among them.
Controls
- Phone: Swipe controls with a separate trigger fire; two-finger input supported.
- Computer: Arrows or WASD to fly; Space or right mouse button to fire; P or Esc to pause; Enter to start; F for full screen.
Settings and Presentation
- Languages: Polish and English (switchable in the menu).
- Settings include full screen, sound, and automatic graphics quality (lowers detail when frames drop).
- The city, airport, traffic, clouds, and all graphics are drawn with a proprietary 3D engine on a 2D canvas without external libraries.
Platform
Playable in desktop and mobile browsers as a single HTML file; runs offline once loaded.
